Bangalore: KE to sign MoU with Christ University to train entrepreneurs

Kanara Entrepreneurs (KE) and Kanara Entrepreneurs Ltd, chapter members of KE Global family, which is organsing its biennial global convention – Entreprenet 2014 – in Bangalore on January 31 and February 1 will be signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Christ University to nurture entrepreneurship among students, mentor and give a boost to become successful entrepreneurs.

Addressing a news conference, KE Chairman and Entreprenet 2014 conference committee chief Mark D’Souza said the MoU will be signed with Christ University Vice Chancellor Rev Dr Thomas C Mathew.

The objective of KE was to provide entrepreneurs with training in leadership and opportunities for networking, he said pointing out Christ University and KE were keen on training and mentoring students from an young age to hone up and sharpen their entrepreneurship qualities and encourage them to prepare successful business plans and execute them to create wealth, thereby helping in the growth of society and country at large.

Our education system, including business management and other professional institutions, were mostly geared to train and prepare the youth to seek employment rather than becoming entrepreneurs or successful businessmen,” said D’Souza adding: ''We want to change the focus from employment to becoming entrepreneurs. We are prepared to set up incubation centres and provide all necessary assistance and support.”

Though the MoU with Christ University, Bangalore is the first of its kind initiative, other business schools like St Joseph’s College of Business Management, have also evinced interest to start similar ventures, said Claudius Pereira, Conference Committee vice chairman.

Answering questions, Mark D’Souza said the infrastructure facilities will be provided by the educational institutions. KE will guide and nurture the students and help in preparing business plans and if necessary assist in arranging necessary seed capital funding, he said.

KE Global with its affiliates comprising 1400 business leaders, professionals, executives and entrepreneurs with net worth of Rs 10,000 crore, has already established its own KE Venture Fund with an initial capital of Rs 1 crore that could be scaled up to Rs 5 crore. The actual funding was yet to begin, he said.

The Emerging Business Plan Contest, whose preliminary rounds were held in Mumbai, Bangalore and Mangalore in the run-up to the Entreprenet 2014 Global Convention will be the first opportunity when the winners in the finals would be eligible for a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and funding support upto Rs 1 crore, he explained.

As many as 19 key members of the Dubai Chapter of KE Global had set up the Mangalore Internet City project in 75 acre plot near Bondel in Mangalore on the Bajpe Airport Road. The first phase of the project, Mangalore Hills, a residential and commercial gated community of 45 villas, was ready, said Claudius Pereira.

The two-day Entreprenet 2014 Global Convention, being held for the first time in Bangalore, will be inaugurated by Karnataka’s Home Minister K J George and presided over by Bangalore Archbishop Most Rev Dr Bernard Moras on January 31 at Hotel Park Plaza, Marathahalli, Bangalore.
