Founders Fiesta with Eugene Mathias – Co-Founder & Director Firefly Spaces
~ ELTON D’SOUZA
Over the seven successful editions, Founders Fiesta has gained positive response and interest from many of the seasoned as well as budding entrepreneurs. In the 8th edition, we had gathered together to hear from Eugene Mathias, the Co-Founder and Director of Firefly Spaces.
The morning began with a chirpy networking session amongst fellow attendees followed by a sumptuous breakfast. The session began with Eugene sharing about the inception of Firefly Spaces and how the logo came into existence. The logo being that of a firefly and how the business takes up various projects such as interiors, architecture, renovation, civil, etc., bringing a glowing smile on their customers’ faces with every single project the team takes up.
Like most of the entrepreneur’s journey, Eugene also had a very humble beginning and upbringing. He began working for corporates at the executive level and eventually did amazingly well being promoted to management levels, and heading teams until his entrepreneurship calling came in 2016 and the rest is history.
Eugene spoke about how important it is to have a positive mindset and stay focused in business and never lose sight of goals. For any business to be successful as much as strategy is important, Eugene also emphasized that it is vital to have a positive mindset as well as a customer-centric focus, being available for them at any point in the day.
The success mantra for Firefly Spaces has been understanding the customers’ needs, passion for the projects they undertake and lastly having a hearing ear, which Eugene emphasizes is the most important. Over time, Firefly Spaces has become a brand known amongst many including the KE community.
Eugene has always been a visionary at the helm of innovation where he has been setting milestones and breakthroughs for the organization to achieve. The latest milestone being the Firefly Studios which focuses on architecture and civil-related works. The team has been very meticulous with every project they undertake from the project flow to the design and execution following the step-up approach.
Every entrepreneurship journey is filled with bitter-sweet moments filled with a lot of takeaways and learnings. Here are a few learnings shared by Eugene:
1) Learning is like an everyday meal
2) Setting your principles and standards
3) Quality comes at a price
4) Value your experience and believe in yourself
5) Patience is a virtue
6) Your team is your heartbeat
Eugene’s entrepreneurship journey was well received by the KE members, his story of grit, focus, and can-do attitude, delivered with subtle humor brought about appreciation, smiles, and laughter in the entire room. The session concluded with a quote “Sketches meet skill only at Firefly Spaces” followed by a few enthusiastic questions asked by the members and a visit to the Firefly Spaces office.
